Wolves Lose, 7-5, to San Francisco
|
San Francisco and Vancouver took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
San Francisco left fielder Leonilde Tigre helped his team beat the Vancouver Wolves, 7-5. Tigre, who finished 3rd in the WC in batting average with .311 last year, went 2 for 5 for the Friars. San Francisco reliever Mike Pechtel picked up the win to move to 4-5. Bill Lohry suffered the loss. Jeff Boffa closed out the game, earning his 30th save.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Lyalya Markosiants came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Vancouver pitcher Bill Lohry, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 6-5.
"I'm glad we can make our fans happy with a win," Markosiants told the San Francisco Today.
The first-place Friars, at 95-60, now lead their division by 4 games.
