Destroyers Get Better of Glaciers, 7-4
|
The San Diego Destroyers defeated the Denver Glaciers, 7-4, at Mountain Dew Park. Tom Sarmiento, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2079, was a standout performer for San Diego. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Trevor Laverick earned the win, while former first round draft pick Raul Garibaldi took the loss for Denver. Matt Kloser closed it out for his 2nd save.
San Diego used a clutch at-bat from Ramão Bizarro to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Destroyers ahead, 7-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"They had a good approach," Denver skipper Todd Bleess said of the opposition. "Hats off to them."
The Destroyers sit in last place in the Western Conference John Sexton Division with a record of 66-86.
