San Francisco Upended by Denver, 7-1
|
Due in large part to left fielder Ricardo Puente, the Denver Glaciers sunk the San Francisco Friars, 7-1. Puente was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Dryden Ice, the winner, improved to 7-2. He held San Francisco to 1 run on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Picking up the save was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Ringo Pineiro.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Brian Wooten? The Denver designated hitter had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Glaciers on top, 1-0. For the game, Wooten had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I felt good up there," said Puente. "I saw the ball well."
The 'W' lifts Denver's record to 27-23.
