Friars Score Late, Topple Twins, 9-3
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the San Francisco Friars and Cincinnati Twins.
The San Francisco Friars grabbed a win, 9-3, over the Cincinnati Twins at Staples Field. San Francisco shortstop Edilse Gavilan went 2-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The victory gives San Francisco a record of 30-18.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Riley Cooke came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Bobby Messer, he hit a 2-1 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 4-3.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Gavilan. "It sure beats the alternative."
