Castro Gets 5 Hits
|
Gabe Castro was at the head of a Reno Mountaineers hit parade today at Mountaineers Ballpark. The 20-year-old went to the plate 9 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Lamoine Shockwave that marched off with the 6-5 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Mountaineers skipper following the game. "Gabe did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
Castro did more than fine, dominating the Shockwave at the plate during his record-making 5-for-9 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging third baseman told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
Gabe Castro flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 10th, struck out in the 12th, singled in the 14th and doubled in the 16th.
In 95 games this season Castro is batting .289 with 109 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 49 runs and driven in 42.
