Gaedels Saddle Athletics with 2-0 Loss
|
The St. Louis Gaedels got a magnificent performance from pitcher Luis Espiricueta, who muffled the Kansas City offense en route to a tight, 2-0 Gaedels win at Veeck Park. Manny Medina picked up the save for St. Louis, his 1st of the year. The Gaedels win now puts them at 21-25.
Oscar Mantivar had a big solo home run for the Gaedels in the bottom of the sixth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Whiffen and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Gaedels on top, 2-0.
"We did just enough to win," Mantivar said.
