Neri, Friars Too Much for Dragons
|
Benefiting from Chris Neri's productive game, the San Francisco Friars downed the Portland Dragons, 10-6. Neri went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Friars. John Smallwood was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Jose Contreras. Picking up his 3rd save was two-time All-Star Joe Drum.
Felix Perez, who finished 2nd in the WC in RBI with 126 in 2080, helped out the San Francisco cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 5.
"We've got some hairy guys on our side, too," said San Francisco manager Erich Weatherholt.
The third-place Friars are now 21-26, the Dragons 27-19.
