Burford Blisters Lamoine
|
Frank Burford knows as well as anyone that in baseball, the biggest contracts go to the biggest hitters. At Shockwave Ballpark, he made his case to be considered among that group.
The 21-year-old second baseman hammered 5 hits in 7 chances, though the remarkable effort came even as his Newport News Herons fell, 9-8, to the Lamoine Shockwave.
"We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," Shockwave manager told BNN sportswriters after the game. "Thankfully, we were able to do enough elsewhere that Burford wasn't the difference."
Frank Burford struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, flied out in the 8th, singled in the 11th and hit an RBI single in the 12th.
For the season, Burford is hitting .245, batted in 32 runs with 8 home runs and 26 runs scored.
