Friars Win Close Shave, 5-4
|
The San Francisco Friars racked up a win at Portland Park, bumping off the Portland Dragons, 5-4, in 10 innings. Shaun Chugh, who started for San Francisco, pitched effectively for his team. San Francisco reliever Cheh Ye picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Justin Kurth absorbed the loss. Roger Calzada notched his 11th save of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Claire Wagemaker-Pell came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Portland pitcher Justin Kurth, he hit a 2-2 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 5-4.
In postgame remarks, Wagemaker-Pell said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
With the win, the Friars hiked their record to 26-20.
