Forcelledo, Phantoms Beat Gaedels, 8-3
|
The Chicago Phantoms defeated the St. Louis Gaedels, 8-3, at Veeck Park. Chicago was led by five-time All-Star Nala Forcelledo, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Tommy Pepper earned the win for Chicago. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1. Chicago, at 19-24, sits in 4th place in the Western Conference Nala Forcelledo Division.
Omar Santana had a big 2-run home run for the Phantoms in the top of the second inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Atsumori Kawakami and swatted a home run to right. It was his 6th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phantoms ahead, 3-0.
"Just glad I could help us get a win," said Santana.
