The Los Angeles Stars overcame a good performance by San Francisco third baseman Amdre Ceclio to knock off San Francisco, 5-3, at Staples Field. Ceclio went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs. Jerry Cowley picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 9 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 4-1. Billy Portillo recorded his 2nd save for Los Angeles.
Los Angeles used the clutch hitting of Ramiro Perez to snag the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stars ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Perez.
The win puts Los Angeles at 21-20 this season.
