Twins Fall Short at Washington, 4-3
The Washington Senators took Cincinnati pitcher Macario Mendoza's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The ESPN Zone. The final score had Washington getting past the Twins, 4-3. Mendoza went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 6. Washington reliever Yuuya Usui picked up the win to move to 2-0. Avery Slade suffered the loss. Rafael Morales earned save number 1 this season.

Had Joe Amaya not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Amaya hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Senators.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Cincinnati manager Ryan Stoops.

With the win, Washington elevates its record to 4-1.
