Phoenix starter John Hersey pitched well against the Los Angeles Stars at Stars Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. In 7 innings, Hersey surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Jimmy Hsia closed it out for his 29th save.
Phoenix used a clutch at-bat from Kieron Broadhurst to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Thunderbirds ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
