Gaedels Outdo Senators in Extra Innings
|
The St. Louis Gaedels picked up a win at Veeck Park, knocking off the Washington Senators, 3-2, in 11 innings. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Luis Espiricueta. He played a pivotal role in the triumph. The winner was Alex Villalobos in relief. His record improves to 5-6. Mike Woolfrey took the loss. The second-place Gaedels go to 70-80.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the 11th for St. Louis. That's when Alex Artiaga hit a solo home run off former first round draft pick Mike Woolfrey to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said St. Louis manager Mak Dolnick.
