Athletics Suffer 7-6 Loss to Stars
The inspired effort of Kansas City right fielder Dave Yerges was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the Los Angeles Stars. Yerges was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Los Angeles, at 92-58, sits in first place in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division.

Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Danny Grass to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Stars on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle. "But we decided not to take it."
