In a tight game between the Los Angeles Stars and the Phoenix Thunderbirds, pitcher Manny Muro was terrific on the mound. The Los Angeles right-hander helped his team to the 2-1 win. Miguel Torrez recorded the save, making him 40 for 42. The first-place Stars have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.

The outcome might have been different for Los Angeles, had it not been for Eloy Laca, the former first round draft pick . Laca stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Los Angeles up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"Manny -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Stars manager Pat Kaers. "He was the key to us winning."
