5-3 Win Takes Thunderbirds to 83-66
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds topped the Minneapolis Vikings, 5-3, in Western Conference action at Legednary Park. The standout performance belonged to Phoenix pitcher and Medfield, Massachusetts, native John Hersey. The winner was Hersey. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Ti-an Fang. The save went to Jimmy Hsia, his 24th this season.
Joaquin Yanqui, who finished 5th in the EC in runs with 98 in 2073, chipped in a 2-run home run for Phoenix in the bottom of the third. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Hersey told the Phoenix Observer.
The second-place Thunderbirds lifted their record to 83-66.
