Senators Topple Gaedels with Late Rally
|
St. Louis wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Lanzo Huitron, falling to the Washington Senators, 3-1. Huitron threw 8.1 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Alex Zurita, now 8-2, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Earning his 11th save of the year was Keung King.
Washington used the clutch hitting of Matthew Bankson to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Senators ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Bankson told a Washington Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
With the win, the Senators improved to 85-63.
