Stars Edge Past Friars, 5-4
|
Los Angeles starter Jimmy Oyola pitched well against the San Francisco Friars at Staples Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4, in 17 innings. Pete Vickerson recorded his 1st save for Los Angeles. The third-place Stars go to 20-20.
Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Rio Matthews to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 17th inning to put the Stars on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers.
