Santiago Wins, 4-3, in Extra Innings
|
The Santiago Avispas faced a tough opponent in Boston pitcher Adrian Portuondo, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Arrington Park by a final score of 4-3 in 11 innings. Portuondo went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Gustavo Palacios got the save, the 6th for him this season. Santiago, now 87-60, holds down first place in the Eastern Conference Paul Pagac Division.
Santiago needed the clutch hitting of Karl Cooper to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Avispas on top, 4-3. For the game, Cooper had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This ballgame left me feeling kind of raw," said Boston manager Matt Glazer.
