Destroyers Dismiss Glaciers, 4-2
|
The San Diego Destroyers overcame a pretty good performance by Denver third baseman Emilio Oregon, beating the Glaciers, 4-2, at Seaward Stadium. Oregon was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. Jerry Cowley picked up the win in relief for San Diego, while James L'Hommedieu took the loss. Julio Olivo collected save number 17.
The Destroyers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Tsuneteru Shimada. For the game, Shimada was 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 17th home run of the season gave San Diego a 2-1 lead.
Shimada attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
The 4th-place Glaciers have lost 5 consecutive games.
