Thunderbirds Pull Out Late Win, 2-1
|
Phoenix used a superb performance from starting pitcher Jesus Carbajal to down the Minneapolis Vikings, 2-1. Phoenix reliever Gene Doriott picked up the win to move to 3-2. Bertrand Ivory suffered the loss. The second-place Thunderbirds bumped their record to 69-74.
Rickey Pfau came through with a big-time hit for Phoenix. The first baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Jesus throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
