Starting pitcher Jim Lawrence gave the Maine Lobster a rock-solid effort. The Wilkie, Canada native helped his team defeat the Havana Metropolitanos, 3-2, at Ballpark of Portland. Maine is third in the Eastern Conference Benito Cossutta Division with a record of 66-76.
Had James Gilmore not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Gilmore hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Lobster.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Havana manager Kevin Mayerhofer. "But we decided not to take it."
