The Kansas City Athletics got a good effort from starter Bill Snelgrove in defeating the Tucson Toros at Aetna Stadium. The final score was 5-2. The 4th-place Athletics bumped their record to 58-83.

Riichi Otomo had a big run-scoring double for the Athletics in the top of the fourth inning. With Kansas City leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Yaciel Cusido, who finished 3rd in the EC in innings pitched with 224.0 in 2072, and swatted a double to left. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 2-0.

"Bill set the tone with his ability to attack the hitters," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle.
