Brooklyn 86-52 After 7-3 Win Over Santiago
|
The Brooklyn Browns beat the Santiago Avispas, 7-3, at Estadio Guillermón Moncada. The win was due in part to center fielder Tommy Bomba, who was 3 for 5 with a triple and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Greg Byrne. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-2. The first-place Browns have won 4 straight games.
Antonio Burquez had a big 2-run home run for the Browns in the top of the first inning. With Brooklyn leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Miguel Cordova and punished it. The result was his 18th home run of the season, which put the Browns on top, 3-0.
Bomba said he was "thrilled" the fans had something to get excited about.
