Santiago pitcher Buddy Verveer had a large part in his team beating the Brooklyn Browns, 7-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Verveer got the win, improving to 7-13. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Joe Drum closed out the game, earning his 16th save.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Avispas grabbed the lead when Alonzo Armijo rapped a two-out single. Santiago was trailing 2-1, when Armijo hit a 2-run single off Simone Banatoni to put his team in front, 3-2.
"It was a good team win. Everybody threw something in," Verveer told the Santiago Gazette.
The Avispas sit in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Antonio Detorres Division with a record of 54-86.
