Friars Drop Close One Late
|
Felix Talamantez, who is tied for 10th in the WC with a 8.6 K/9 rate, had a strong outing for the Chicago Phantoms against the San Francisco Friars at Staples Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. The winning pitcher was Talamantez, now 5-3. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. Jason Mouland picked up the save for Chicago, his 3rd of the year.
Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Jin-young Choe to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Phantoms on top, 3-1. For the game, Choe had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Talamantez said.
Chicago is now 74-65, while San Francisco is 71-68.
