A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Minneapolis Vikings and Chicago Phantoms.
The Minneapolis Vikings besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Chicago first baseman Matt Smookler by beating the Phantoms, 10-5, at Foster Field. Smookler was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Kevin Street got the win, improving to 4-3. He held the Phantoms to 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1.
Minneapolis used a clutch at-bat from Tohru Asano to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Vikings ahead, 7-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Asano said. "We did a good job of that today."
Minneapolis has a record of 19-20, placing them second in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division.
