Vikings Defeated, 9-6
|
Minneapolis right fielder Sergio Justiniano had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 9-6, to Kansas City at Ballpark of Missouri. Justiniano was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Their 61-77 record puts the Athletics last in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division.
Duviel Zaldivar had a big 3-run home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the third inning. With Kansas City trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Steve McFarlen, who led the WC in innings pitched with 224.0 in 2074, and punished it. The result was his 23rd home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 4-3.
In comments to the Kansas City Daily, Zaldivar admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
