Wolves Shut Out Friars, 2-0
|
Left-hander John Gulley mesmerized the San Francisco Friars while leading the Vancouver Wolves to a 2-0 victory. Gulley, the winner, moves to 8-5. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. The Wolves sit in last place in the Western Conference Felipe Solorzo Division with a record of 64-74.
Alvaro Salazar had a big solo home run for the Wolves in the bottom of the third inning. With Vancouver leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a splitter from Lyalya Markosiants, who finished 5th in the WC in triples with 8 in 2080, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Wolves on top, 2-0.
"The old adage is true," said Salazar. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
