Starting pitcher John Rochford fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Alaska Kodiaks stymie the Tucson Toros, 2-1. The first-place Kodiaks, at 77-59, lead the Western Conference Eric Wise Division by 3½ games.

The Kodiaks got a big at-bat from first baseman Boyd Heath. For the game, Heath was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 41st double of the season gave Alaska a 2-1 lead.

"John kept his poise and got the job done," said Alaska manager Alex King. "He was outstanding."
