Amaya Swings Senators to 8-1 Win
The Washington Senators beat the Santiago Avispas by a score of 8-1. Washington designated hitter Joe Amaya deserved the lion's share of the credit. Amaya was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Senators. Rajam Masrani, the winner, improved to 6-5. He held the Avispas to 1 run on 5 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 2. The win has Washington at 49-85.

Washington used a well-timed hit by Danny Mrazek to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Senators ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Mrazek told the Washington Observer. "Whatever it takes."
