Stars Pick Up 3-1 Road Win Over Phoenix
|
The Los Angeles Stars, behind a great outing from Rin Sakai, who finished 2nd in the WC in wins with 15 in 2075, defeated the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 3-1, at Legednary Park. In 7.1 innings, Sakai surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Adam Mimnaugh, credited with the save, is now 16 for 17 in save opportunities.
The Stars got a big at-bat from right fielder Chris Brankin. For the game, Brankin went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 32nd double of the season gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.
"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Sakai.
Los Angeles, now 82-52, holds down first place in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division.
