Dragons Pull Out Late-Game Win, 9-8
|
Jose Gonzales did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the San Diego Destroyers from losing the game, 9-8, to the Portland Dragons in 10 innings at Portland Park. Gonzales went 6 for 6 with 2 doubles and 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The Dragons saw their win-loss record go to 56-79. At the same time, the Destroyers fell to 72-62.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Portland left fielder Evan Salimbene, facing Jerry Cowley, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Dragons the 9-8 win.
"Sometimes you get the ball in the right spot and it goes," said Salimbene.
