Senators Down Twins, 6-3
|
The Washington Senators locked up a win at The ESPN Zone, knocking off the Cincinnati Twins, 6-3. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Hawk Hartshorn. He played a major role in the triumph. The Senators saw their win-loss record go to 57-77. At the same time, the Twins fell to 64-71.
Ross Valdes had a big bases-clearing double for the Senators in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Washington leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Beau Eschmann, who is tied for 8th in the EC with a 9.1 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to left. It was his 40th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Senators ahead, 5-0.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Hartshorn. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
