Destroyers Win, 5-3
|
San Diego Destroyers starter Bob Castillo pitched a strong game against the Alaska Kodiaks at Tundradome, leading the Destroyers to victory, 5-3. The winner was Castillo. He threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Alcides Zaldivar. Dave Gaytan converted his 1st save in 2 tries.
Tom Sarmiento had a big 2-run home run for the Destroyers in the top of the sixth inning. With San Diego leading 3-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Bill Mauck, who finished 2nd in the WC in innings pitched with 209.0 in 2081, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Destroyers on top, 5-0.
San Diego manager Steve Alstadt commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
The Destroyers win now puts them at 57-76.
