Brooklyn Beaten, 15-8, by Miami in 12
|
In a high-scoring contest between Miami and Brooklyn, shortstop Greg Wozniak was a difference-maker. Wozniak, who finished 3rd in the WC in wins above replacement with 6.6 in 2072, distinguished himself in the 15-8 Miami win. He went 1 for 2 with 6 walks and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times. The winner in relief was Victor Alonzo. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 2-2. Brooklyn, at 70-61, has lost 4 straight.
Todd Kozuch went 1 for 4 with 3 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for Miami. The 24-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the 12th. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 8-8 tie with a run-scoring walk off Joe Valentino. It was his 49th walk of the season.
"This game showed the grit and grind of our guys," said Wozniak.
