Avispas Curb Lobster, 4-2

The Santiago Avispas got a marvelous performance from pitcher Vaisel Ajete. The right-hander kept the Portland (E) offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-2 Santiago victory at Estadio Guillermón Moncada. In 5 innings, Ajete surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Joe Drum closed it out for Santiago, earning his 15th save.
Santiago left fielder Paul Rees contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a changeup to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 49th hit of the season and put the Avispas ahead, 2-0.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Rees said in reaction to the win.
The Avispas now have a record of 50-80.
