Senators Pull Out Late-Game Win, 4-3
|
Starting pitcher Rajam Masrani pitched well enough to help the Washington Senators beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 4-3. Washington reliever Kelly Lazell was the winner. His record is now 5-7. The losing pitcher was Chris Isaacks. Earning his 24th save of the year was Julio Mendoza.
Sakai, Japan-born Takeshi Esaki came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Senators trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Washington on top.
After the game, Washington manager Josh Cooan applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The Senators go to 45-79 with the win.
