Fans watched the San Francisco Friars and the San Diego Destroyers fight to the finish.

Though he had a terrific game, Asa Hornyak could not prevent his team, the San Diego Destroyers, from absorbing a loss. San Francisco won the game, 5-4. Hornyak hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Cruz Ponce, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Joe Drum earned the save for San Francisco, his 10th of the year.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Minoru Kume? The 25-year old shortstop Kume stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put San Francisco up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"It's good to win," Kume told the San Francisco Daily News. "I like to have fun doing it."

With the win, San Francisco goes to 65-60, while the Destroyers fall to 55-70.
