Gaedels Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Vikings
|
St. Louis beat Minneapolis in a rain-soaked ballgame.
St. Louis Gaedels starter Aaron Kopta turned in a top-notch performance against the Minneapolis Vikings at Veeck Park. The result was a win for the Gaedels, 3-2. J.P. DeVore closed the door for St. Louis, picking up his 7th save of the year.
Keith Sexton had a big 2-run home run for the Gaedels in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Louis trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 30-year old right-handed pitcher Bertrand Ivory and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gaedels ahead, 3-2.
"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said Kopta. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."
The second-place Gaedels now sit at 62-62.
