Slumping Spectres Lose Again
|
Led by Todd Kozuch, the Miami Cyclones defeated the Philadelphia Spectres, 12-7. Kozuch, a native of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, was 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Cyclones. Ed Rice, who finished 5th in the EC in saves with 19 last year, was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Philadelphia's current losing streak is now 8 games.
Miami used a clutch at-bat from Storm Kennedy to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cyclones ahead, 8-5. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Ryan Huff, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
