Phoenix pitcher Matt Nyholm had a large part in his team beating the St. Louis Gaedels, 3-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jimmy Hsia, who finished 5th in the EC in saves with 29 in 2074, nailed down the save. Phoenix is second in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division with a record of 69-50.

Phoenix took the lead, 3-0, on Billy Morf's 14th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off St. Louis pitcher Albert van Dongen in the top of the eighth.

"I thought he pitched his game," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch. "Just a nice, Matt-like performance."
