Destroyers Rebuff Wolves, 4-2
|
Starting pitcher Dunieski Vazquez was a major factor in the 4-2 San Diego Destroyers triumph over the Vancouver Wolves. Vazquez, now 3-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Julio Olivo converted his 28th save in 34 tries.
Tom Daoust had a big 3-run home run for the Destroyers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Diego trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Pat Felber and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Destroyers on top, 3-1.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Vazquez.
The Destroyers improved to 67-53.
