The Kansas City Athletics withstood a fine game by San Francisco pitcher Lyalya Markosiants at Staples Field, to upend the Friars, 4-3. Markosiants threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Elijah Yates closed it out for Kansas City, earning his 11th save. With the win, the Athletics have a record of 68-49.
Making an impact for Kansas City was designated hitter Ryan Clifford. The Crow drilled a 2-run home run off Lyalya Markosiants in the top of the fifth. For the game, Clifford was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I like our mindset right now," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle.
