Dragons Score Late to Upend Cyclones, 5-3
|
Portland and Miami duked it out and the Dragons came out victorious.
The Dragons grabbed a win, 5-3, at Portland Park, overcoming a fine effort from Miami pitcher Josh Hebrank. Hebrank went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Portland reliever Abel Downey snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ivan Fernandez shouldered the loss.
Had Tadashi Shimizu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Shimizu hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Dragons.
Portland manager Greg Carpenter commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
The Dragons raised their record to 47-71.
