Friars Best Thunderbirds in Pitching Duel

The San Francisco Friars, behind a great outing from Cruz Ponce, who is tied for 5th in the WC with a 10.0 K/9 rate, defeated the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 2-1, at Staples Field. With the win, the Friars hiked their record to 25-13.
San Francisco first baseman Felix Perez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 48th hit of the season and put the Friars ahead, 2-0.
"That's baseball," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
