The Portland Dragons stopped the Montreal Harfangs, 5-4, behind an impressive performance from Xadreque Esperana. The five-time All-Star made life miserable for Montreal pitching. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Portland reliever Takuma Takahashi picked up the win, raising his record to 3-4. Ron Trevathan was tagged with the loss. Portland raised its record to 63-53 with the win.

Had Felix Sanchez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Sanchez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Dragons.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Sanchez told the Portland Observer.
