Thunderbirds Defeat Avispas, 5-3
|
Legednary Park was the site for Western Conference action featuring the Santiago Avispas and Phoenix Thunderbirds.
Though he had a terrific game, Alonzo Armijo could not prevent his team, the Santiago Avispas, from absorbing a loss. Phoenix won the game, 5-3. Armijo was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Picking up the win was Arturo Noboa. He went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The left--hander struck out 4 and walked 1. Picking up the save was 11-year veteran Justin Wicker.
The Thunderbirds got a big at-bat from designated hitter Er Hsiao. For the game, Hsiao went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave Phoenix a 2-0 lead.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Hsiao. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
The Thunderbirds sit in second place in the Western Conference Manny Muro Division with a record of 55-60.
