Gaedels Dump Philadelphia, 5-1, to Win 4th in a Row
|
The St. Louis Gaedels handed the Philadelphia Spectres a loss at Veeck Park. The final score was 5-1. Lloyd Brocklebank was one of the major contributors for St. Louis. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 1 run and drove in 4. The win was credited to 27-year old right-handed pitcher Tso-i Mak in relief. His record improves to 6-2. Alberto Zamora took the loss. The second-place Gaedels have won 4 in a row.
Brocklebank had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Eddy Martinez, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Gaedels a 5-1 lead. It was the 26th home run of the year for Brocklebank.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said St. Louis manager Mak Dolnick. "It's usually not just one thing."
