Polo Grounds II played host to some dramatic action.
Kamakana Aniani, who finished 2nd in the EC in wins above replacement with 7.4 last year, led New York to a win over Portland (E). The final score was 6-5. Aniani scored 2 times, while going 3 for 4. The first baseman also was credited with 1 run batted in. With the win, New York raised its record to 83-31.
The game-ending blow was delivered by David Jiron in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Zavala to win it for New York and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
"This one wasn't over until it was over," Aniani said, postgame.
