Glaciers Handle Avispas, Nab 1-0 Win
|
Ringo Pineiro, who is tied for 9th in the WC in wins with 10, was terrific for the Denver Glaciers in his team's 1-0 triumph over the Santiago Avispas. His performance earned Pineiro rave reviews. Jeremy Lanham earned the save, his 15th. The Glaciers, at 73-41, sit in first place in the Western Conference Eric Wise Division.
The Glaciers got a big at-bat from right fielder Fujio Akimoto. For the game, Akimoto went 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Denver a 1-0 lead.
"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Glaciers manager Todd Bleess.
